At least 40,000 supporters will cheer the Pharaohs against the Super Eagles – A win for Egypt will book the North African nation a place in Gabon Ahead of the must win encounter for the Super Eagles of Nigeria against the Pharaohs, Egypt’s Ministry of Interior has announced that 40,000 supporters will attend the 2017 Africa Cup of Nation’s qualifying game on Tuesday March 29.
A win for Egypt on the night will guarantee the North Africans a place at the 2017 AFCON finals in Gabon, situation Samson Siasia’s men will do everything to avoid. According to Egypt’s Interior Ministry, security officials initially approved the attendance of 10,000 fans before adding another 5,000 and finally settling on 40,000. It was also disclosed that fans have been making efforts to purchase the tickets a couple of days before the epic encounter in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria which forced the EFA to ask security officials for an increase in the number of supporters allowed to attend the match. Mohamed Salah’s late minute strike denied Nigeria all three points in Kaduna on Friday March 25, after Etebo Oghenekaro had put the Eagles ahead on the hour-mark.
After the game, coach Samson Siasia claimed the Eagles conceded the late equalizer due to lack of concentration, but is optimistic the Super Eagles can win the North Africans at their backyard. Should Nigeria defeat Egypt, they will be the favourites to finish at the top of the standings going into the last game with a point lead over the Pharaohs with Tanzania visiting the Eagles at home in September.
